A “Soc Ent Approach to Health and Social Care?” event was held on Thursday 26th of January at the Quaker Meeting House in Edinburgh. part of a year long project “An Enterprising Approach to Health and Social Care” this event showcased a number of social enterprises working in the health field.
Arranged by ESE Health Development Officer Lindsey Crawford, the event, “A Soc Ent Approach to Health and Social Care?” sought to bring together social enterprises who are engaged in health-focused activity together with decision makers and practitioners in NHS and City of Edinburgh Council for a day of conversations, connections and learning.
Following presentations from the officer and opening remarks from NHS Lothian’s Shulah Allan and City of Edinburgh Council’s Wendy Dale, attendees took part in a social enterprise speed dating session before attending presentations and activity sessions. These included a service user Q&A with Mike Ellis and Tap Into IT, a look around WHALE Arts’ SMARTCraft disability arts exhibition and a short sampling of chair yoga with Laura Wilson from Edinburgh Community Yoga Outreach.
Interactive posters around the main offered an insight into other Edinburgh Social Enterprise members, Street Fit Scotland, Dads Rock and Space Artworks to peruse over during the coffee break and networking lunch! Feedback from participants for this “energetic” and “effective” event on the day was overwhelmingly positive, and Edinburgh Social Enterprise look forward to making these links even stronger into the future!
