Cyrenians – Good Food In Tackling Homelessness
The Project delivers a range of food and health services, providing a refreshing approach and positive opportunities for individuals taking their first steps back to becoming contributing members of our communities. Elements of the project include food redistribution, cooking classes, food hygiene training and practical work experience.
“The Good Food Programme is part of Cyrenians Social Enterprise Department and has been operating since March 2000. The project delivers a range of food and health services, providing a refreshing approach and positive opportunities for individuals taking their first steps back as contributing members of our communities.
The Good Food Project’s services include:
“¢ A food redistribution project (FareShare) which manages good food that would otherwise be sent to landfill, and redistributes it among member agencies in Edinburgh and the Lothians. If you are interested in joining us as a Member and taking major steps to reducing your food costs and increasing the choice of food available to your organisation along with other benefits including Food Safety advice and REHIS (Royal Environmental Institute of Scotland) Accredited Training please contact us for further information.
“¢ Cooking classes and a range of ‘hands on’ activities which encourage healthy eating, and promote social inclusion. These new skills also help participants increase their confidence. We can deliver Cooking Classes to your organisation in your own premises or include in the financial package the use of our Training Kitchen located in Leith, Edinburgh.
“¢ Practical opportunities for training and work experience through a range of social enterprise activities including our Enterprise to Employment project.”
