Trustees and Directors Network

The Network for Trustees and Directors of Edinburgh Social Enterprise members is a new network helping build your skills, knowledge and confidence.
Being on the board/management committee of a third sector organisation is a demanding role, requiring an understanding of a range of issues and responsibilities. Trustees/Directors of Social Enterprises also need to understand the opportunities and challenges of generating income through trading along with the responsibilities of overseeing a business.
ESE is establishing the Edinburgh Social Enterprise Trustees and Directors Network to help individuals and boards/committees develop their knowledge and skills relating to these roles and responsibilities.
Who is this for?
Trustees or Directors of organisations that are members of ESE such as chairperson, vicechairperson, treasurer, secretary, board/management committee members. This network is not for employees of Social Enterprises.
What are the benefits? Networking: meet Trustees/Directors from other social enterprises, access other ESE events Peer support: participate in discussions to share knowledge and experience Skills development: access training which will build skills, knowledge and confidence Signposting: to other relevant networks, professional experts and support
• To bring Trustees/Directors together in a safe, supported space to identify and discuss issues that affect them in their role on boards/management committees, of social enterprises.
• Access to training, advice and support from experts around identified issues, i.e., roles and responsibilities, legal structures, business development planning, impact reporting, company law, employment law, relationships with staff and volunteers.
• Signpost to other relevant support networks • Creating opportunities and support to becoming a Trustee/Director
We will strengthen the Social Enterprise sector through building the skills, knowledge and expertise of Trustees and Directors. This will help build the capacity of individual organisations and of the whole sector, strengthening the collective reputation of Social Enterprises as key providers of services and products that contribute to social and economic outcomes.
